ANDOVER, Kan. – Two points separated third place from fifth place on Thursday, and the McPherson Boys found themselves with .500 records in three out of four entries for a fourth place finish out of seven total schools.
In a beautiful day for tennis, the doubles duo of Alex Berger and Kayden McVicker would go 3-1 on the day to lead MHS with a 5th place finish. Bryson Archer and Ethan Elder were 2-1, finishing 9th. Viggo McHenry and Owen Neighbors were singles players on Thursday, McHenry finished 2-2 for a 7th place finish, while Neighbors was 1-2 for 10th.
Head Coach Tyler Brown noted that nerves may have played a factor early on, but he said, “By the end of the day, all six guys started to find their game, and we started to see improvement in our game as each match presented itself.”
Looking ahead at the schedule, the Pups will play in the highly touted John Markham Spring Classic in Goddard, on Saturday. Coach Brown mentioned it being just as competitive as the state tournament if not tougher than the state tournament, he said, “It will be interesting to see how we do come Saturday. I’m excited to see the growth of this team from the start to the end with us being a very young team.”
