McPHERSON, Kan. – McPherson High School Girls Golf competed in their home invitational Thursday at Turkey Creek Golf Course, setting a new school record and placing 2nd in the event.

The Bullpups finished with a total score of 313, breaking the previous record by 16 strokes. The mark finished them 2nd out of 14 teams. Kapaun Mt. Carmel won the event with 308. Newton’s Naomi Koontz won the individual title, setting a course record of 63 (-8).

Brodie Kuhn led the Bullpups with 72 to tie for 3rd place. Andi Buschbom tied for 5th with 75. Freshman Lleyton Kuhn tied for 14th with 81, a new personal best.

Two other Bullpups also set personal records: Ari Prose shot a PR of 104 (42nd) and Rosario Showengerdt with 106 (T-44th).

“I’m incredibly proud of our team,” Head Coach Treg Fawl said. “Our two senior leaders (Brodie Kuhn & Buschbom) came out strong and set the tone early. I’m especially proud of the girls who played 18 holes for the first time ever. It’s a big step, and they handled it with determination and grit.”

“This was a milestone day for our program,” Fawl added. “We’re looking forward to building on it at our next varsity meet.” The varsity team will compete Friday, Sept. 26 at Hesston.
