Lyons High School sports had a busy week between Thursday, Sept. 18, and Tuesday, Sept. 23, especially in Volleyball and Cross Country.
VOLLEYBALL
The Lyons Volleyball team had three events within six days, starting with a triangular at Douglass on Thursday, Sept. 18. The Lions fell in both matches, losing to Douglass 2-1 (25-16, 23-25, 21-25) and Goessel 2-0 (20-25, 17-25).
The Lions then traveled to Marion for the Marion Spikefest. Lyons got their first win of the season against Douglass in pool play, 2-1 (18-25, 25-18, 25-19), but fell in pool play to Berean Academy 2-0 (26-28, 13-25). The 1-1 pool play mark put them in the 5th place game against the host school, but they fell to Marion 2-0 (13-25, 19-25).
Their third event in six days was a dual against Ellsworth on the road. The Lions fell in both matches, losing game one 2-0 (12-25, 24-26) and game two 2-0 as well (14-25, 16-25).
CROSS COUNTRY
The Lyons Cross Country teams competed in the St. John Invitational at the Stafford Country Club.
The Lyons Boys finished 3rd overall. They were led by Cain Villasenor, finishing in 12th place. Aaron Villasenor finished in 20th, Francisco Espinoza finished in 22nd, and Derek Valerio placed 34th.
The Lyons Girls’ only listed runner was Alli Solis, who finished 23rd overall.
