Lyons Boys Squeeze Out Tight Win Over Ellinwood, While Eagles Girls Win Big

The Lyons-Ellinwood boys game was a typical game between these \rivals and came down to the last possession before the game was finally decided, as Lyons won 49-46

Ellinwood led by one point at the end of the first period and by as many as six points early in the second period before Lyons took control to lead at halftime 24-20. The lead slipped to one for Lyons at the end of the third quarter.  Then the fourth quarter saw Lyons get an eight-point lead before Ellinwood caught fire.

The game went the last three minutes with both teams trading possessions and baskets until Ellinwood got the ball back after a Lyons turnover with 8.6 seconds to go. Ellinwood was trying to get the ball into the hands of their hot-shooter, Drake Hosmer, but Tegan Link stepped into the passing lane on the right wing to steal the pass and preserve the win for Lyons.

Link was the leading scorer for Lyons with 16 points.

Ellinwood was led by Drake Hosmer with a game-high 22 points, with 16 coming in the second half.

Lyons improves their record to 7-9 while Ellinwood falls to 4-10.   Next week, Lyons travels to Ellsworth for an NCAA league contest while Ellinwood returns to play in the CPL as they play Victoria.

Ellinwood girls 82, Lyons 14 

Ellinwood showed its ranking, No. 5 in Class 2A, was well deserved as the Eagles outmatched the Lions in an 82-14 win.

Mette Maxwell paced Ellinwood with 20 points, as she made 6 of 7 three-point shots. Three other Eagles were in double digits as Alyvia Batchman added 13 points, Julia Schlessiger had 11 points, and Brynn Widener ended with 10 points.

Leading the way for Lyons was Hayden Linden with five points.

Ellinwood advances their season record to 14-1. Lyons is now 2-14 for the season.
