SALINA, Kan. – The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association (KBCA) held their All-Star basketball games Saturday, June 21 at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina.
The Girls game got things started, which saw the Blue team win 70-61. Gold led 53-50 after three quarters, but a 20-8 fourth quarter by Blue pulled them away with the win. Buhler’s Natalya Krafels shot 1-4, finishing with two points for team Blue. Central Plain’s Marilyn Soeken had six points on the Gold team, shooting 2-7.
The Boys game saw a Gold team blowout, winning 107-61 thanks to their defense and rebounding. McPherson’s Gabe Pyle, who was honored earlier in the day as Mr. Kansas Basketball, led Gold with 19 points. Ty Romero of Elyria Christian had 14 points. Ellinwood’s Landon Simpson had 10 points, Moundridge’s Bear Moddelmog had nine, Hesston’s Reed Friesen scored eight points, Andale’s Austin Baalmann finished with four points and Macksville’s Diego Esparza had two points.
Local undefeated teams from a decade ago were honored for their induction into the KBCA Hall of Fame.
