Little River Sweeps Titles at St. John Mid-Winter Classic

Not even 24 hours after their 61-55 tussle with Wichita East, the Little River High School girls basketball team defeated Inman 69-43 to win the St. John Mid-Winter Classic Saturday.

The Little River boys held off the Central Plains Oilers 55-47 for a Little River sweep of the Mid-Winter Classic championship games.

The Little River girls improved to 14-1 and the Little River boys are 12-1. The Little River girls are ranked No. 1 in Kansas Class 1A Division I and Inman is ranked No. 7 in Kansas Class 2A.

In the girls title game, Little River led 17-10 after one quarter, 33-18 at halftime and 55-32 at the end of the third quarter. Little River outscored the Tigers 14-11 in the fourth quarter.

Arika Feldman led the Little River girls with 25 points. Havana Olander scored 14, Evie Look 11 and Saelyn Raleigh 8. Raynee Eddy led Inman with 13 points. Kenna Woods added 11 points.

The Central Plains boys led 16-13 at the end of the first quarter, but the Redskins went on a 19-9 in the second quarter to take a 32-25 halftime. The Oilers outscored Little River 14-12 in the third quarter to cut the Redskins’ lead to 44-39. Little River outscored the Oilers 11-8 in the fourth quarter for the 8-point win.


Lincoln Raleigh led Little River with 16 points. Jaxson Konen and Logan Schubert each scored 11 points. Jaren Garrison scored 7 points. Konen and Raleigh combined for 7 assists.

Brodie Crites scored 26 of Central Plains’ 47 points. He made 14-of-17 free throws.

Konen was named the boys tournament Most Valuable Player and made the Boys All-Tournament Team. Also making the boys team were Crites and Camden Stiles, Central Plains; Emmett Delp, St. John; and Cade Sonday, Cimarron.

St. John’s Braxton Alpers earned the Boys Hustle Award, Stiles won the 3-Point Shooting Contest and Delp won the Free Throw Contest.

Little River’s Arika Feldman was named the girls tournament Most Valuable Player and was joined on the Girls All-Tournament Team by teammate Avery Lafferty; Gentri Bright, St. John; Jayden Crosby, Larned; and Kenna Woods, Inman

St. John’s Reagan Bonner earned the Hustle Award, Larned’s Cassidy Wachs won the Free Throw Conrtest and Crosby won the 3-Point Contest.

St. John defeated Larned 61-44 in the third-place boys game and Larned defeated Central Plains 32-27 in the third-place girls game.

The Little River teams travel to Solomon on Tuesday and host Lost Springs-Centre on Friday.

Inman plays at Sedgwick on Tuesday and plays at Remington on Friday.
