The Little River High School girls basketball team can hang up a fifth state championship banner next to the Redskins “four-peat” championship banners from 1995-98.
The Redskins, who finished the season with a 25-2 record, defeated Wabaunsee 59-24 in the Kansas Class 1A Division I championship game Saturday night at Dodge City’s United Wireless Arena.
Little River led 21-4 at the end of the first quarter, 27-9 at halftime and 41-30 at the end of the third quarter. The Redskins put the game away with an 18-4 fourth quarter.
Arika Feldman led the Redskins with 20 points. Dempsey Lafferty and Havana Olander each scored 9 points, Avery Lafferty 8, Evie Look 6, Saelyn Raleigh 3, Adelynn Strecker 2 and Lacy Wright 2.
Avery Lafferty grabbed 9 rebounds, Dempsey Lafferty 8 and Feldman 7. Strecker had 5 assists and Raleigh 4. Feldman blocked 6 shots. Dempsey Lafferty had 5 steals.
Grace Keller led Wabaunsee with 9 points. Reese Michaelis and Talen Orton each scored 5 points, Edan Perrin 3 and Leah Schrader 2. Orton grabbed 7 rebounds and Michaelis had 3 steals.
Little River won the rebound battle 41-27
Wabaunsee, which defeated Pretty Prairie 49-38 in the semifinals, finished the season 25-4.
• Class 1A DI boys state championship — Beloit-St. John’s/Tipton Catholic 57, South Central 50 — Edward Horinek poured in 25 points (with four 3-pointers) to lead the Beloit-St. John’s/Tipton Catholic Blujays to a 57-53 victory in the Kansas Class 1A Division I state championship Saturday at Dodge City’s United Wireless Arena.
The Blujays trailed at halftime 28-25 and the Timberwolves led 37-28 in the third quarter. However, the Bluejays closed the gap to 41-39 at the end of the third quarter and went on an 18-12 run in the fourth quarter.
Gabriel Roderick scored 15 points for the Blujays. Dominic Eilert contributed 14 points and 7 rebounds. Kaden Rabe tallied 3 points and dished off 8 assists.
Eli Girl led the Timberwolves with 24 points, Jack Herd scored 19 and Easton Huck 8. Herd had 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Jack Williams added 2 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.
The Blujays posted a 24-2 record and the Timberwolves finished with a 22-5 mark.
