KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The McPherson High Girls Soccer team challenged themselves on Saturday, taking the trip to Kansas City, to face one of the top teams in Class 4A, the Bishop Miege Stags, a team who’s won the last six state championships since 2016.
The first half was a strong defensive effort from McPherson, but Bishop Miege was able to break through and score a goal, taking a 1-0 lead into the half. Unfortunately, the second half started poorly for the Bullpups as Miege scored two quick goals. Head Coach Chris Adrian noted, “We came out a little flat and Miege made us pay.”
The team did not give up, however, and responded with a renewed effort, playing better in the final 30 minutes of the match and showed glimpses of what they were capable of. “I was proud of how the team responded after giving up those two goals.” said Adrian, “Obviously the team was disappointed, but they didn’t quit.”
Following the 4-0 loss, Coach Adrian said, “We aren’t going to hide from the result or sugar coat it. We’ve got work to do if we want to defeat a team like Bishop Miege at the end of the season.” Adrian knows his team is hungry, and eager to improve, and he concluded by saying, “It was an experience that showed us what we are doing well and what we need to work on for the final three weeks.”
The McPherson Lady Pups move to 7-3 overall, and will be back on the road Tuesday, when they travel to Winfield for a JV match beginning at 5 p.m. The Varsity match will begin at 6:30 p.m.
