CHENEY, Kan. – The McPherson High Girls Golf team has made rapid progress towards improvement throughout the course of their inaugural season, and on Monday, they set a school record shooting 377 as a team, finishing second out of 12 teams in the Andale Invitational.
“(It was) Another great tournament for our team.” noted Head Coach Treg Fawl, “To break the 380-mark as a team score, is huge for us.”
The Pups were led by freshman, Brodie Kuhn, who placed 2nd out of 71 players. For the second straight meet, Amber Smith was just short of finishing in the top 10, she placed 11th shooting 96. Kaya Lowery was just two shots back finishing 14th, Coach Fawl was proud of her accomplishment, and mentioned it was just her second 18-hole tournament. He also said, “Andi Buschbom continues her steady play as a freshman being under 100 consistently.” Fawl said she has the potential to be a low 90’s to high 80’s player moving forward, on Monday she was just one shot back from Lowery, shooting 99, finishing in a tie for 15th. Macy Rinker was also mentioned as a player that could consistently be in the 90s as well, she finished in a tie for 22nd, shooting 103. Caitlyn Pearson played her first-ever 18-hole tournament, finishing with a score of 104, tying for 24th.
Coach Fawl said following the tournament, “The competition is bringing out better scores and better practice habits.” He concluded by saying, “I am very proud of our team. We are all looking forward to the postseason.”
On Tuesday, the Bullpup JV will travel to Hutchinson for a tournament at The Course at Carey Park. Tee time is slated for 2 p.m. The varsity will compete at Carey Park on Thursday, at 9 a.m.
