LAWRENCE, Kan. (KUAthletics.com) – Kansas Volleyball freshman Zoey Burgess was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
In Kansas’ 3-0 week, Burgess earned her first career-start against then-No. 24 Marquette, helping the Jayhawks beat the Golden Eagles with eight kills on 11 total attempts, hitting .727. The middle blocker out of Apline, Utah also notched five total blocks in the Jayhawks’ first ranked win of the season, adding to her already strong performance.
Burgess’ 17-kill, 12-block week made for a breakout performance for the Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year, and she played a large role in helping Kansas move up to No. 11 in this week’s AVCA poll.
This marks Burgess’ first-career Rookie of the Week award.
