CLAFLIN, Kan. – Many area high schoolers competed at the Kansas Eight Man Football Association State Powerlifting Meet at Central Plains High School on Saturday.
Five individuals took home overall state championships at the event. On the boys side, Cale Thompson of Central Plains took the gold with 575 lbs lifted overall at 123#. He also took first individually in the squat (240 lbs) and clean (195 lbs).
On the girls side, there were four individual overall gold medal winners with three from Goessel. At 105#, Abbigail Funk took first with 395 lbs lifted. She won the individual gold in the squat (180 lbs) and the clean (120 lbs). Ami Funk took first for the Bluebirds at 114#, lifting 450 pounds overall. She won the gold in the bench (115 lbs) and the clean (135 lbs). Brooklyn Wuest was first place overall for Goessel at 148# as she lifted 515 lbs total. She also won the bench (140 lbs) and the clean (180 lbs). The final individual overall champion on the girls side was Lu Mey Cronje of Little River who took first at 140#, lifting 555 pounds total. She took first in the squat (245 lbs) and the clean (175 lbs).
