IOLA, Kan. – The KC Iola Hormigas were in action in Iola Wednesday night looking for their first sweep, but fell short against the Santa Fe Fuego 16-11.
It was another offensive battle as the Hormigas had 16 hits on the contest and walked eight times. They led 8-6 after five innings, but the Fuego scored 10 unanswered in the next three innings. The Hormigas put up three runs in the 8th, but were unable to mount the comeback.
David Hendrick went 3-6 with two doubles and four RBI’s. Reed Carter went 3-5 with a home run. Three other Hormigas had multi-hit games.
On the hill, the team gave up 14 hits and walked 16 batters. Sebastian Suarez got the loss, throwing 2 2/3 innings, walking seven betters, and allowing three earned runs.
The Hormigas are now 6-15 on the season and are still in last place in the Pecos League Mountain North division. They’ll head to Oklahoma for a three-game series against the Blackwell Flycatchers starting Thurs., June 26 at 6:30 p.m.
