IOLA, Kan. – After struggling for most of the season, the KC Iola Hormigas went to the all-star break with a four-game win streak.
Following a 10-9 victory over the Trinidad Triggers in Iola Tues., July 8, the Hormigas had a lengthy road trip in New Mexico and Colorado. The road stretch started in Santa Fe, New Mexico Thurs., July 10, which saw a 15-10 Hormigas win. The team then traveled to Trinidad, Colo., beating the Triggers 4-3 Saturday and 14-7 Sunday.
Members of the Hormigas then participated in the Pecos League All-Star Game in Garden City as members of the South team, who defeated the North team 7-3. Jake Slocum was the starting pitcher in the game, earning the win throwing four innings. Miguel Tejada went 1-2 and Nicholas Chavez went 0-1 with three walks and two runs.
The Hormigas enters the final two weeks of the season with an 11-23 record. They are off until Thurs., July 17 when they travel to face the Garden City Wind. Their final series in Iola will be July 20-22 against the Blackwell Flycatchers.
