KC Iola Hormigas Get Big Win over Trinidad 10-9

IOLA, Kan. – The KC Iola Hormigas closed off a brief series against the Trinidad Triggers, winning in Iola 10-9 Tues., July 8.

The Hormigas had a strong start to the contest, leading 4-1 after two innings. After the Triggers brought the game back within a run, the Hormigas delivered a six-run bottom of the 5th inning to lead 10-3, thanks to six hits.

Trinidad crept closer thanks to a five-run 7th and a one-run 8th to make the score 10-9, but the Hormigas slammed the door in the 9th to pick up their eighth win of the season. Xander Nabors earned the save, pitching 2/3 of the 9th inning and allowing one hit.

Brandon Nixon earned the win on the hill after throwing five innings. Nixon gave up seven hits, three runs (two earned), and two walks but struck out two batters. Offensively, the Hormigas had 13 hits, led by Alejandro Herrera going 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI’s. Oscar Galvez, Nabors, and Devin Radar each had two hits while Jorge Carreo contributed with a home run.

The Hormigas are now 8-23 on the season. They will not have a game Wed., July 9, but will head to New Mexico to face the Santa Fe Fuego Thurs., July 10 before traveling to Colorado to rematch the Triggers Friday & Saturday.
