LAWRENCE, Kan. (Phog.net) – Kansas Basketball head coach Bill Self was admitted to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and had two stents inserted on Thursday afternoon, the university announced.

“Self felt unwell and experienced some concerning symptoms Thursday,” KU said. “The procedure went very well, and he is expected to make a full recovery. He is in good spirits and expects to be released from the hospital soon.”

Self and the team were nearing the end of summer workouts. The head coach spoke with the media on Monday as the final week of the summer session drew to a close. The Jayhawks are entering what will be Self’s 23rd season as head coach, and he’s only missed a handful of games as such.

In March 2023, Self missed both the Big 12 Tournament and NCAA Tournament due to a similar health issue. At the time, he went to the emergency department with symptoms of chest tightness at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, where he underwent a heart catheterization and had two stents inserted.
