LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas forward Jaliya Davis was one of five players named to the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) All-Tournament Team, which was announced Wednesday night following the conclusion of the WBIT Championship Game.
Columbia, who won the championship game 81-64 over BYU, had three players on the team in MVP Riley Weiss, Mia Brook and Susie Rafiu. Davis and BYU’s Delaney Gibb completed the all-tournament team.
The Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Davis carried her strong play into the postseason, scoring at least 13 points in each of KU’s WBIT games. She scored more than 20 points twice in the WBIT, going for 21 points and eight rebounds in the opening win against Troy on March 19, before scoring 25 points with six rebounds in the KU victory against San Diego State on March 26 in the quarters. Davis averaged 19.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in the WBIT, while also totaling eight assists, two steals and one blocked shot. Davis connected on 23-of-35 (65.7 percent) field goal attempts and 13-of-20 (65.0 percent) free throws in KU’s four postseason contests.
This is the latest in a long line of honors for Davis, who was an All-Big 12 First Team and Big 12 All-Freshman Team selection. The Overland Park, Kansas, native set a new power conference record with nine-consecutive Big 12 Freshman of the Week awards, beginning on Jan. 5 and continuing through the end of the regular season. Davis finished her first collegiate season with 514 points, which ranks second in Kansas women’s basketball history for a freshman behind only the legendary Lynette Woodard.
