IOLA, Kan. – The KC Iola Hormigas finished off the 2025 season Tues., July 29, falling to the Garden City Wind 4-3 on the road.
The Hormigas and Wind went back and forth, both scoring runs in the third and fifth innings. However, a walk-off home run on the first at-bat of the bottom of the 9th inning ended the game, ending the Hormigas’ season.
The team finished 12-34 on the season, putting them in last in the Mountain North division of the Pecos League. The season ended on a six-game losing streak and losing 11 of their last 12 games. The Garden City Wind won the division with a 44-7 record, finishing 14 games ahead of the North Platte 80s. The Wind move on to the playoffs, which begin next week.
Despite the struggles, the Hormigas showed off their terrific play in Iola, going 8-12 at home this season. The team also had terrific play offensively with seven players finishing with a batting average of above .300. Reed Carter played 24 games, leading with a .366 batting average. Nicholas Chaves played in nine more games with a .364 average. Devin Radar led the team in home runs (8) and RBIs (37). Xander Nabors finished with 20 stolen bases on the season.
The 2026 season begins in late May.
