Inman High School’s Riley Roots brought home a first-place gold medal and teammate Tyler Martisko placed fifth at Thursday’s Smoky Valley Invitational cross country meet.
The meet took place at the Smoky Valley cross course in Lindsborg.
Roots posted a time of 17 minutes, 4.35 seconds and Martisko was fifth with a time of 17:39.76.
Lyons’ top runner was Cain Villasenor, who placed ninth in 18:34.4. Teammate Francisco Espinoza was 11th in 19:10.62, followed by Anthony Ventura, 25th, 21:09.25; Jose Recendiz, 28th, 21:35; Dale Loughbridge, 29th, 21:39.14; and Edgard Morales, 32nd, 21:59.88.
Sterling’s top runner was Ben Bierstedt, who placed 22nd in 20:31.68. He was followed by Sebi Simpson-Eighmy, 34th, 22:28,65; and Isaac Welty, 37th, 22:47.4.
Lyons’ Alli Solis was the top varsity girls runner from the area. She placed 16th with a time of 24:17.16.
Inman was paced in the varsity girls race by Abigail Siemens, who placed 21st in 25:20.3, followed by Allison Wedel, 22nd, 25:22.87; and Camille Bray, 26th, 29:02.25.
Sterling placed two runners: Karie Inwood, 20th, 24:54.71; and Israel Kuhn, 24th, 27:08.
