Inman Girls Advance to Midwinter Classic Semifinals, Inman Boys Fall on Buzzer-beater

The Inman High School girls basketball team defeated Macksville 59-32 in the first round of the St. John Mid-Winter Classic Monday night.

Three players scored in double figures for the Inman girls: Ellie Thimmesch scored 14 points, Kenna Woods 13 and Allison Schrag 10. Heidy Ortiz led the Mustangs with 9 points amd Daniela Reyes added 8.

The Inman girls (9-2) will play Larned in the 3:30 p.m. game Friday. Larned defeated Cimarron 51-18 in the first round.

Macksville’s girls (3-9) will play Cimarron in the 3:30 p.m. consolation round game Friday.

In other first-round girls games on Tuesday, Little River plays Nickerson at 3:30 p.m. and Central Plains plays St. John at 6:30 p.m.

The Inman boys basketball team were edged by Larned 41-39 in the first round of the St. John Mid-Winter Classic Monday night.

Larned’s Kylier Greene won the game on an offensive putback at the final buzzer. Greene led Larned with 17 points.

Kru Harris led the Inman Teuton boys with 17 points and Malachi Brunk scored 12.

The Larned boys (5-7) advanced to the 8 p.m. semifinal game Friday against Little River (10-1), which defeated Cimarron 55-44.

Logan Schubert led the Little River boys with 18 points. Jaxson Konen scored 13 points, Jaren Garrison 12 and Lincoln Raleigh 8.

The Inman boys (6-5) will play Cimarron at 8 p.m. Thursday in the consolation round.

In first-round boys games Tuesday, Central Plains plays Nickerson at 5 p.m. and St. John plays Macksville at 8 p.m.

In first-round boys games Monday night at the Hoisington Winter Jam, the Pratt boys defeated Minneapolis 71-25 and Victoria defeated Ellinwood 60-52. Victoria is 8-3.

Pratt’s Arley Morrell, a Kansas State football signee, outscored the Lions 27-25. Caleb Strong added 17 and Cade Liggett 11. Owen Just and Tanner Norris each scored 8 points for the Lions.

The Victoria boys were led by Nick Sander with 18 points. Kyle Guesser scored 14 points and Weston Scherrer 13. Drake Hosman led Ellinwood with 18 points. Luke Heinz and Austin Brack each scored 9.

In first-round girls games, Monday at the Hoisington Winter Jam, the Ellinwood girls defeated Pratt 54-33 and Minneapolis defeated Victoria 57-30.

Julia Schlessiger led Ellinwood with 17 points. Brynn Widener added 11 points and Reece Stickney scored 8.

Hope Hughes scored 15 of the Pratt girls’ 33 points.

In first-round boys games Tuesday, La Crosse plays Ellsworth at 5 p.m., followed by the Reno County Sabres vs. Hoisington at 6:30 p.m. In a first-round girls game Tuesday, Ellsworth plays La Crosse at 3:30 p.m.
