Hyer’s & Jones’ Career Days Overshadowed by Swedes Football Loss to Rivals

LINDSBORG, Kan. (BethanySwedes.com) – The Bethany College Swedes Football team played host to the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes in what was the Swedes’ home-opener. The Swedes showed grit, but would fall 38-7 to the Coyotes.

Jessie Caver III would lead the passing attack with 147 yards through the air, but Landry Shields would tally the lone touchdown pass of the evening connecting with Chase Hyer in the endzone. Speaking of Hyer, he had a career night racking up seven catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. The ground attack was quiet this match with Josiah Hardrick and Carlos Leonard Jr. both running for 17 yards.

On the defensive side, Malcolm Jones was seemingly everywhere tonight racking up 18 total tackles, including 10 solo and a forced fumble. Calvin Geans and Cooper Bogenhagen would each sack the quarterback for seven-yard losses. Geans would also pounce on Jones’ forced fumble to give the Swedes possession. Donque Williams blocked and recovered a field goal.

The Swedes have one more night game scheduled and it is next week in Leavenworth, Kan. The Swedes will take on the University of Saint Mary Spires in Charles Berkel Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM Saturday, September 13.
