Hutchinson’s Hannah Marcum Qualifies for 5A State Golf Tournament

The Hutchinson High School girls golf team placed fifth at the Kansas 5A regional tournament Monday at the par-70 Salina Municipal Golf Course.

Hutchinson’s top golfers were Hannah Marcum and Darbie Wells, who placed 19th and 20th with 105 and 107 scores.

Marcum qualified for the Kansas Class 5A State Girls Golf Tournament Oct. 20-21 (Monday and Tuesday) at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course.

The top three teams and top 10 individuals all qualified for the 5A state tournament.

Hutchinson’s Jade Brislin placed 25th, 113; Baylee Pickering, 30th, 119; Audryee Soule, 32nd, 120; and Renna Ehling, 33rd, 132.

Wichita Kapaun Mount Carmel won the team title with a 292 score, followed by Newton 384, Hays 389, Salina South 402, Hutchinson 444 and Great Bend 456.

Kapaun placed five golfers in the top six and six in the top 13, led by regional champion Ximena Sarinana with a 2-under-par 68. She edged out Newton’s Naomi Koontz, who fired a 69.

Kapaun’s Reese Christenson and Natalee Runyon fired 73s, with Christenson beating Runyon in a playoff for third place.

Kapaun’s Emma Nguyen and Remi Harley placed fifth and sixth at 78 and 79. Teammate Avery Hamilton placed 13th with a 99.

Hays High qualified as a team for the state girls golf tournament for the 20th consecutive season.
