The Hutchinson Trinity High School girls basketball team opens the 2025-26 season on Dec. 2 with a “road game” a few minutes away against Hutchinson Central Christian.

The Celtics, a member of the Heart of America League, finished 2-19 in 2024-25, including a loss to Bennington in the first round of the Kansas Class 2A sub-state tournament. The Celtics return five starters.

“We are coming off a year where we played an incredibly tough schedule with a lot of inexperienced players, who were forced early and often into varsity games because of a lack of upperclassmen,” said Shannon Obermite, who begins her fourth year as Trinity girls coach. Obermite is assisted by Kristen Harroald. Team managers are Sally Harroald and Sienna Blea.

“We had a beneficial offseason, working on strength training, basketball fundamentals and skills and gaining basketball experience. We look to continue to accumulate more game experience this season, get stronger, and keep improving our play. We will look to be competitive from start to finish this season, starting on the defensive side of the ball. We have a great group of girls with a bright future who work hard, play hard, finish games no matter what the score and are extremely resilient.”

Returning starters for the Celtics are Alex Suter-Tan, 5-foot-7 sophomore (currently out with ACL injury suffered last season), 16.3 points a game (2nd in HOA), 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3.3 steals, 10 blocks, 46% field goal, 41% 3-pt. FG, 53% free throws, 16 games played, 2nd Team All-HOA League, Honorable Mention All-State.

Brecken Dowsey, 5-1 sophomore, 3.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1 assist, 2.7 steals, 21 games played; Cienna Maskil, 5-10 sophomore, 6.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 17 blocks, 21 games played; Eilley Cost, 5-10 junior, 4.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 19 games played; and Anika Paulsrud, 5-6 sophomore, 2.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.0 assist, 1.1 steals, 20 games played.

Other key returning varsity players are Kara Nelson, 5-8 junior; Audrey Wilson, 5-3 junior; Emma Martin, 5-2 sophomore; and Alyssa Guajardo, 5-5 sophomore.

The first day of winter sports team practices in Kansas is Monday.
