HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Hutchinson Monarchs were at home Monday vs. the Wichita Wildcats, but the game was delayed, and eventually suspended, during the first inning.
The game was already delayed by nearly 30 minutes, but the game began and went on as normal. Wichita scored on an RBI double in the first inning to lead 1-0. Then Hutchinson loaded the bases and scored two runs on a single. After a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, a sacrifice fly made it 3-1 Monarchs. Two pitches later, umpires and game officials noticed lightning in the area and delayed the game at approximately 8:00 p.m.
The Monarchs took to social media for updates. They stated that they planned to resume the game at 8:55 p.m., but when storms returned to the area, the teams decided to suspend the game to be finished at a later date.
When the game resumes, it will be the bottom of the first inning with Hutchinson batting, leading 3-1 with one out, runners at first and third base, and a 2-0 count.
The Monarchs are off Tuesday, June 24. The Wildcats play against the Junction City Brigade Tuesday, so the game can’t be resumed Tuesday. The Monarchs are back in action Wednesday, June 25 on the road against the Newton Rebels.
