The Hutchinson Central Christian girls basketball team defeated Republic County 41-27 Friday afternoon to place third at the Eli J. Walter Invitational, hosted by Berean Academy in Elbing.
Jessa Losew led the Central Christian girls with 14 points. Avery Kauffman scored 11, Reese Swanson 9 and Ava Newcome 7.
The Central Christian girls placed third in the 59th annual girls tournament behind first-place Berean Academy and second-place Bennington.
Berean Academy also won the 2nd annual boys tournament. Ell-Saline placed second and Classical School of Wichita placed third. The Central Christian-Bennington seventh-place boys game was canceled.
Central Christian’s Reese Swanson and Jessa Losew made the Girls All-Tournament Team and Hunter Franz made the Boys All-Tournament Team.
Also making the Eli J. Walter Girls All-Tournament Team were Brooklyn Clark and Jordan Bartlett, Bennington; Fionna Morgan and Adrienne Mullins, Berean Academy; Anna Schmidt, Classical; Paisley Jensen, Ell Saline; Joy Pyle, Elyria Christian; Tallyn Melton and Dakota Clausen-Peters, Republic County; and Zoey Steele, Solomon.
Also making the Boys All-Tournament Team were Isaiah Garrett, Bennington; Emory Kukula and Nolan Sweazy, Berean Academy; Abe Black and Mack Dolloff, Classical; Reese Krone and Trey Williams, Ell-Saline; Grayson Broadus, Elyria Christian; Connor Martin, Republic County; Breken Coup and Calvin Mattison, Solomon.
