Hutchinson Baseball, Softball Swept on Tuesday

The Hutchinson High School varsity softball team was swept by Maize in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Maize won the first game 20-5 and the second game 11-6. The Eagles ran their record to 10-0 and Hutchinson fell to 3-5.

The Hutchinson baseball team was swept Tuesday at home by Derby 14-1 (Game 1) and 7-4 (Game 2) and fell to 0-10.

The Salthawk softball and baseball teams play at Valley Center on Thursday. The baseball team hosts Maize South next Tuesday.

In other Tuesday night baseball and softball action:

• The Hutchinson Trinity Catholic Celtic baseball team swept a home doubleheader from Marion 13-2 (5 innings, Game 1) and 7-0 (Game 2) Tuesday at Rice Park and improved its record to 5-1 overall (4-0 at home).

In the first game, the Celtics scored 9 runs in the third inning and rapped out 9 hits. In the second game, Trinity held Marion to 1 hit.

The Celtics play at Sedgwick on Monday and at Remington on Friday.

• The Inman High School baseball team swept a doubleheader Canton Galva 15-2 (Game 1) and 15-1 (Game 2). Both were run-rule games.

• The Halstead High School varsity baseball and softball teams both posted sweeps Tuesday at Nickerson.

The Dragons baseball team defeated the Panthers 15-2 (5 innings, Game 1) and 13-3 (6 innings, Game 2).

The Halstead softball team defeated Nickerson 15-1 (5 innings, Game 1) and 25-3 (5 innings, Game 2).

The Nickerson baseball team hosts Ellsworth Friday at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson and the Panther softball team hosts Ellsworth at Fun Valley.

• The Hoisington High School softball team swept a doubleheader from Larned Thursday at Bicentennial Park in Hoisington. The Cardinals swept Larned 12-1 (Game 1) and 7-6 (Game 2).

• The Hoisington Cardinal baseball team swept Larned 4-3 (Game 1) and 9-8 (Game 2) Larned’s baseball and softball teams travel to Hesston to take on the Swathers.

• The Hesston Swather softball team swept Smoky Valley 11-1 (Game 1) and 17-5 (Game 2)
