COFFEYVILLE, Kan. (BlueDragonSports.com) – Led by freshman thrower Deisheline Mayer Scott, the Hutchinson Community College women’s track and field team matched its best team finisher ever at the Region 6 Outdoor Championships on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Scott earned her second regional runner-up finish of the meet on Saturday in the shot put and scored 16 total team points to lead the Blue Dragons to a third-place Region 6 and third-place Jayhawk West finish. The Blue Dragons matched their third-place regional performance of 2024, which was the highest finish in team history.
The Blue Dragons amassed 95 Region 6 team points, finishing behind only Cloud County (197 points) and Barton (128 points) in the regional standings. Cloud County also won the Jayhawk West title with 238 points. Barton was second with 158 points and Hutchinson was third with 135 points.

Overall, the Blue Dragons scored in 13 of 22 events and had multiple scorers in six events.
After a regional runner-up finish in the javelin on Friday, Mayer Scott added a second runner-up finish in the shot put on Saturday. Mayer Scott’s best attempt in the shot put was 43 feet, 5 1/4 inches (13.24 meters). That was a personal best for Mayer Scott, who is now No. 8 in Blue Dragon outdoor history. That performance also netted Mayer Scott a Jayhawk West championship.
Sophomore Abigail Grantham finished a strong meet with a third-place and national-qualifying performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Grantham posted the second-best time in team history with a time of 11:59.01. Grantham was also a part of Friday’s third-place 4×800 relay.
Sophomore Yaya Moreno scored six points in the triple jump with a third-place effort in the triple jump. Her career best jump of 36-2 1/4 (11.03 meters) is ninth in Blue Dragon outdoor history.
Sophomore distance runner Jordyn Picolet added a pair of fourth-place finishes to score 20 team points over the two-day competition. Picolet was fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:09.10 and was fourth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:55.67.
Other Blue Dragon Region 6 Performances:
+ Alycea McCoy scored in two events, placing fourth in the triple jump at 35-10 3/4 (10.24 meters) and was fifth in the pole vault after clearing 9-10 1/2 (3.01 meters).
+ Aiyanna Green placed fourth in the shot put at 39-10 (12.14 meters). She was also eighth in the hammer throw with a PR of 139-8 (42.57 meters).
+ Laura Avila was fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:09.16.
+ The Blue Dragon 4×100-meter relay team of Sierra Brooks, Kemesha Dominique-Williams, Azariah Dawes and Sydney Holt placed fifth with a time of 48.18.
+ The Blue Dragon 4×400-meter relay team of Brooks, Holt, Dominique-Williams and Dawes was fifth in a time of 4:07.30, which is the eighth-fastest relay in team history.
+ Grace Bender was seventh in the pole vault at 9-4 1/4 (2.86 meters).
The Blue Dragons next compete at the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 15-17 at Gowans Stadium.
