IOLA, Kan. – The KC Iola Hormigas held a lead after seven innings, but the Trinidad Triggers stormed back to defeat the Hormigas 7-4 Monday, July 7 in Iola.
The Hormigas were scoreless through five innings, trailing 3-0 after the 5th frame. They brought the game within one run in the 6th when Rames Valasquez led off with a double and was driven home by Miguel Tejada. Oscar Galvez brought Tejada home later in the inning to make it 3-2 Trinidad.
KC Iola took the lead in the 7th inning thanks to a Valasquez double and Nicholas Chaves scoring on a passed ball. However, Trinidad put up four runs in the top of the 8th inning after five hits in the inning. The Hormigas were unable to mount the comeback, falling 7-4.
Mario Burruel had a great day on the hill, throwing seven innings and striking out 10 batters. Sebastian Suarez gave up the four runs in the 8th inning to get the loss. The Hormigas are now 7-23 on the season and will play again against Trinidad Tues., July 8 in Iola.
