HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Blue Dragons’ home opener will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 against Ellsworth at Gowans Stadium.

The Blue Dragon Athletic Department has announced its five themes for the five home games for Blue Dragon football.

Teachers, military and first responders appreciation will be the three of theme nights during Blue Dragon football games, celebrating and honoring education and those who protect the communities. Below are the scheduled theme nights for Blue Dragon football:

  • Sept. 2 vs. Ellsworth – First Responders’ Day/Autograph signing
    • Firefighters, emergency medical services, police officers and other first responders are recognized at the home opener of the Blue Dragons. First responders get in the gate free. Kids are invited after the game for a free autograph signing with Blue Dragon football players. Stay tuned to and our social media pages for details.
  • Sept. 23 vs. Coffeyville – Youth Football Night
    • Celebrating the youth of Hutchinson, the YMCA football league players and coaches are invited to attend a rematch of last season’s NJCAA Playoff semifinal in primetime at Gowans Stadium. Kids wearing their game jerseys get into the game for free.
  • Oct. 7 vs. Dodge City – Homecoming
    • A tradition capping off a week of activities and welcoming back Blue Dragon alumni with a 1 p.m. kickoff against the Conquistadors at Gowans Stadium.
  • Oct. 21 vs. Garden City – Teacher Appreciation Day
    • Local school teachers and administrators are invited to Gowans Stadium in culmination of celebrating educators in Reno County and all of Kansas. Teachers and administrators receive free admission into the game.
  • Nov. 11 vs. Iowa Western – Veterans Day/Military Appreciation Day
    • In honor of Veterans Day, we salute and recognize members of the military in what could be a battle for critical postseason ambitions. Color theme is to be determined. Military members and veterans get into the game for free.
