The Nickerson High School boys basketball team defeated Bucklin 67-51 to capture seventh place Saturday afternoon at the 19th annual Larned Keady Classic.
Nickerson’s Terence Williams earned his first victory as Panther boys basketball coach.
Riley Brawner was named to the Keady Classic 2025 Boys All-Tournament Team.
The Nickerson boys led the Bucklin Red Aces 19-10 after the first quarter, 37-19 at halftime and 59-31 after three quarters.
Cameron Welch led the Nickerson Panther boys in scoring with 14 points. Dale Smith added 11, Austin Peterson 10, Brawner 9, Noah Weber 7 and Chase Welch 6.
Cooper Patterson contributed 4 points, Rylan Morrell 2, Corbin Shelton 2, Jeffren Rodriguez 1 and Easton Cliffor 1.
Kahne Cook led the Bucklin Red Aces with 14 points. Nick Felkert scored 11 and Cody Evans 7.
The Nickerson girls lost to Kinsley 50-26 in the seventh-place girls basketball game.
In the girls game, Nickerson trailed the Kinsley Coyotes 9-8 after one quarter and 25-10 at halftime.
Emmaly Martinez led the Nickerson girls with 10 points. Centhiyah Bankston scored 8 points.
Ava Kirkwood led the Kinsley Coyotes with 22 points. Zaylee Rice added 11 and Olivia Medina 10.
The Bucklin girls captured the Keady Classic third-place girls game over St. John 49-37.
Tristan Stout led Bucklin with 22 points. Karlee Evans and Emmerson Kirk each scored 10 points.
Jalyn Fisher led the St. John Tiger girls with 14 points. Gentri Bright scored 8 points and Reagan Bonner 8.
St. John won the Keady Classic third-place boys game over Larned 66-51.
Jace Reyes led the victorious Tigers with 17 points. Braxton Alpers scored 14, Emmett Delp 13 and Julio Lozano 9. Delp was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Anthony Gonzalez led the Larned boys with 17 points. Tristan Regan added 13. Larned’s Kylier Greene was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Holcomb Longhorn girls (5-0) went on 16-6 run in the fourth quarter to defeat Larned 44-35 to win the Keady Classic championship game.
Jaylee Wickwar (17) and Delilah Galliart (15) combined for 32 of Holcomb’s 44 points. Jadyn Crosby (14) and Lauren Sleder (10) combined for 24 of Larned’s 35 points.
Sleder was named to the Girls All-Tournament Team and Crosby won the Girls 3-Point Contest.
The Holcomb boys basketball team (5-0) completed the championship sweep by defeating Hoisington 65-59 in the title game.
Holcomb’s Brody Deniston, the tournament MVP, led his team in scoring with 25 points. Ayden Brown added 12 and Korbin Johnson 11.
Hoisington’s top scorers were Mason Martin with 16 points, Kobe Crawford with 14 and Marcus Ingram 12. Martin and Brody Ofannenstiel were named to th All-Tournament Team.
The Keady Classic fifth-place games (girls and boys) were canceled because Plainville’s teams were unable to make the trip to Larned because of hazardous icy driving conditions north of Hays.
In the girls semifinals on Friday, Holcomb defeated St. John 43-31 and Larned beat Bucklin 45-43 in overtime (the score was tied 39-39 at the end of regulation).
In the boys semifinals Friday, Hoisington defeated St. John 84-52 and Hoisington defeated Larned 53-43.
In the Holcomb girls win over St. John, Holcomb’s Jaylee Wickwar scored 27 points. Isabella Galiiart scored 9.
Jaylyn Fisher led St. John with 12 points. Reagan Bonner added 9.
In the Larned girls victory over Bucklin, Larned’s Jadyn Crosby scored 21 points. Emmerson Kirk led Bucklin with 16 points, Becca Furler scored 10 and Tristan Stout 9.
The Holcomb boys placed four players in double figures: Brody Deniston scored 18 points, Ayden Brown 13, Austin Sullivan 12 and Korbin Johnson 11. Luke Thyne scored 9 and Blake Mader 7.
The St. John boys were paced by Emmett Delp with 18 points and Braxton Alpers with 10.
Mason Martin led the Hoisington boys with 20 points. Brody Pfannenstiel scored 10.
Kylier Greene led Larned with 16 points and Tristan Regan tallied 13.
