Holcomb defeated Goodland 52-36 to win Kansas Class 3A sub-state No. 1 and Ellsworth took down Beloit 49-45 in the sub-state No. 2 championship game Saturday night at Larned.
Holcomb moves on to the 3A state tournament quarterfinal round with a 24-2 record. Ellsworth will take a 16-7 record to state.
The score in the Holcomb-Goodland game was tied 20-20 at halftime. The Holcomb Longhorns outscored the Goodland Cowboys 32-16 in the second half.
Jaylee Wickwar led Holcomb with 15 points. Isabella Galliart added 9. Hope Bierman and Allison Cure scored 9 points apiece for Goodland and Libby Cure scored 7.
The Beloit Trojans led 9-2 after one quarter and 25-19 at halftime. The score was tied 34-34 after three quarters. Ellsworth outscored Beloit 15-11 in the fourth quarter.
Kari Place and Alexis Moore led Ellsworth with 10 points each. Lainey Peschka added 9 amd Elyse Haxton 8.
Karlie Smith led the Beloit Trojans with 16 points and Reagan Cheney added 11 points.
Goodland finished the season with a 19-7 record and Beloit finished 18-5.
