Hutchinson Central Christian 62, Wichita Sunrise 14

The Hutchinson Central Christian Cougars opened the season with a 62-14 win over Wichita Sunrise Friday night.

Hutchinson Central Christian hosts Canton-Galva next Friday.

Conway Springs 28, Nickerson 20

The Nickerson Panthers dropped their season opener 28-20 to Class 1A power Conway Springs Friday night at Detter Field in Nickerson.

Conway Springs led 14-6 after one quarter and 28-13 at halftime.

Nickerson scored the only touchdown of the second half.

Nickerson hosts Haven next Friday.

Reno County Sabres 68, Stafford 22

The Reno County Sabres homeschool football team routed the Stafford Trojans 68-22 Friday night at Stafford.

The Sabres led 29-16 after the first quarter and outscored the Trojans 39-6 in the second quarter to end the game at halftime on the 45-point rule.

Reno County completed 13-of-16 passes for 209 yards in the air with eight TDs and rushed for 174 yards and two TDs.

Junior quarterback Bo Smith completed 11-of-14 passes for 171 yards and seven touchdownsDs and rushed for 48 yards on 4 carries with another TD. Freshman running back Rock Smith rushed for 73 yards and one TD and caught a 16-yard TD pass.

Wide receiver Colt Smith caught 3 passes for 85 yards and 3 TDs. Senior wide receiver Sam Loewen caught 3 passes for 65 yards and two TDs.

The Sabres play at Norwich next Friday.

Reno County does not have a home field and plays all of its games on the road. The Sabres have seven Eight-Man teams and two 11-Man teams on their schedule this season.

Haven 26, Hillsboro 12

The Haven Wildcats opened the 2025 season with a 26-12 victory over Hillsboro Friday night at home.

Haven plays at Nickerson next Friday.

Hesston 27, Halstead 7

The Halstead Dragons opened the 2025 football season with a 27-7 loss to the Hesston Swathers.

The Dragons took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on an 11-yard touchdown run by Brock Odendahl. Carlos Martinez kicked the extra point.

Hesston scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to lead at halftime 14-7. The Swathers’ Jerick Humphries threw a TD pass to Daxon Deering and Blayne Wilson scored on a 7-yard TD run.

Hesston still led 14-7 after three quarters and went on a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter. Wilson scored on TD runs of 47 and 2 yards in the final frame.

Halstead plays at Pratt next Friday.

Little River 50, Chase County 0

Little River blasted Chase County 50-30 in an Eight-Man I game that ended on the 45-point rule in the third quarter.

Little River led 30-0 at halftime on its home field.

Little River plays at Rural Vista next Friday.

Holcomb 15, Cheney 13

A Hail Mary pass fell short for the Cheney Cardinals football team in a 15-13 oss to Holcomb Friday night.

Cheney trailed at halftime 9-6. Max Miller’s touchdown run in the third quarter gave Cheney a 13-8 lead. The Longhorns took a 15-13 lead with 1:50 left in the third quarter.

Andale 104, El Dorado 0

Andale, which has won four of the last five Class 3A state championships, defeated the El Dorado Wildcats 104-0 Friday night.

The Andale Indians play Wellington (1-0) next Friday.
