Hesston senior Ashley Lehman, a University of Nebraska track commit, captured four first-place gold medals at the Kansas Class 3A regional Friday at the Cheney High School track.
Lehman, who has won seven gold medals at the Kansas State High School State Track and Field Championships and holds school records in seven different events, captured first place in the 100-meter dash (12.16 seconds), 200 (24.73), 400 (54.09) and pole vault (11 feet).
Lehman’s four gold medals enabled Hesston to win the regional girls title with 112 points. Holcomb won the boys title with 114 points.
In addition to Lehman’s efforts, Hesston’s Reese Quinn placed second int eh 1600 (5:18.96) and 3200 (11:56.31). Maddy Colborn placed second in the triple jump (36-8.75). Tessa Martin placed second in the discus (121-9).
The 4×800 relay team placed first (10:03.26) and the 4×400 relay team, placed second (4:08.57).
The Hesston boys were paced by first-pace efforts from Jamison Kohl, 300 hurdles (38.78); Lyndon Dillon, pole vault (13-0); Josh Duerksen, shot put (55-4.5); and the 4×400 relay team (3:24.94).
The Swathers’ 4×100 relay team placed second (42.73) and the 4×800 relay team finished third (8:32.13). Dillon also placed fourth in the 400 (50.8) and Tyler Fast was fourth in the 800 (2:05.06).
Halstead’s 4×100-meter girls relay team of Piper Schroeder, Mackenzie Ervin, Jordy Schroeder and Annie Williams placed first with a new school-record time of 49.08 seconds. The same relay lineup placed first at the Central Kansas League meet.
The Dragons’ placed third in the girls 4×400 relay (4:09.03). Jordy Schroeder finished third in the high jump (5-0) and Williams was third in the long jump (16-8.75).
The Halstead boys will be represented at the 3A state meet by Dacen Dedman, who placed third in the 100 (11.04). Evan Wiedeman placed fourth in the high jump (6-2).
The Haven girls will be represented at state by Rilynn Patry, who placed third in the shot put (36-4.5).
The Haven boys posted two fourth-place performances: Isaiah Doherty, 3200 (10:06.53); and Cody Holzrichter, discus (150-10).
Nickerson senior Delaney Childs placed first in the girls javelin (127-7) and fourth in the discus (111-3). Bella Brinkley placed first in the triple jump (35-8.75).
The Nickerson boys will be represented at the state meet by Kason Bright, who placed third in the long jump at regionals (20-11).
Lyons’ Hendrix Starbuck placed second in the boys javelin (156-11). David Pando placed fourth in the 100 (11.14) and fourth in the long jump (20-2.25).
Larned’s Cara Herbert placed second in the girls 100 hurdles (15.16) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (47.32).
The Cheney girls had two first-place efforts: McKinley Sallee, long jump (17-0.25) and Autry Young, shot put (39-8).
Placing second for the Cheney girls were Nikki Wright, 100 (12.72); Kinslie McDorman, 300 hurdles (46.74); Katy Wehrman, pole vault (10-0); and Chloe Scheer, javelin (119-3).
Wright placed third in the 200 (26.23) and Young was third in the discus (116-0).
The Cheney girls 4×800 relay team placed second (10:10.36), the 4×100 fourth (50.22) and the 4×400 fourth (4:11.44).
Wichita Trinity Academy’s Tylee Coleman won the girls 1600 (5:11.46) and 3200 (11:43.78). Lakin’s Aryn Michaelis won the 100 hurdles (15.07) and triple jump (37-9.5).
Other girls first-place finishes: Wichita Collegiate’s Ellie Howell, 800 (2:24.69); Southwestern Heights’ Layla Kisner, 300 hurdles (46.73); Garden Plain 4×400 relay (4:07.98); and Cimarron’s Jaylee Schilling, discus (122-8).
Wichita Collegiate’s Timmy Ritchie took home three gold medals in the boys competition. He won the 100 (10.54), 200 (21.91) and 400 (48.36). Teammate Logan Clay won the discus (193-11) and javelin (174-7).
Holcomb’s Brody Deniston won the 800 (2:03.33) and 1600 (4:31.12). Teammate Cooper Cranston won the 110 hurdles (14.25) and Holcomb won the 4×100 relay (42.1).
Lakin’s Quincy Esquibel won the long jump (21-5) and triple jump (43-0). Teammate Zael Bermudez won the 3200 (10:00.56).
Other first-place winners were Wichita Trinity Academy, 4×8000 relay (8:23.8) and Garden Plains’ Brant Long, high jump (6-4).
Cheney’s Sam Johnson placed second in the 110 hurdles (15.27) and triple jump (41-8.75). Isaac Dietz placed second in the javelin (174-2) and third in the shot put (47-3.25).
Cheney’s Stratton Young and Cash Young placed third and fourth in the 1600 (4:31.85 and 4:34.59).
The Cheney boys placed third in the 4×100 relay (43.37) and fourth in the 4×400 relay (3:30.12). Eli Price was fourth in the pole vault (12-6). Callan Murray was fourth in the shot put (43-10.5).
