Hesston Swather Boys Down Mulvane, Hillsboro; Hesston Girls Split Games

The Hesston Swather boys basketball team prevailed over the Mulvane Wildcats 66-56 Thursday night at Mulvane and routed Hillsboro 70-27 Friday night.

With the two victories, the Hesston boys improved to 11-1.

The Hesston boys led Mulvane 14-13 after one quarter, trailed 35-23 at halftime and led 40-38 at the end of the third quarter. The Swathers outscored the Wildcats 22-18 in the fourth quarter.

On Friday, the Hesston boys led Hillsboro 20-7 at the end of the first quarter, 43-13 at halftime and 60-19 after three quarters. Hesston  outscored Hesston 10-8 in the fourth quarter.

The Hesston Swather varsity girls defeated Mulvane 62-43 on Thursday and lost to Hillsboro 43-28 Friday night.

In the girls game between Hesston and Mulvane, the score was tied 13-13 at the end of the first quarter. Hesston went on a 19-9 run in the second quarter to lead 32-22 at halftime.

Hesston led 47-36 at the end of the third quarter and outscored the Wildcats 15-7 in the fourth quarter.

Ty Unruh led the Hesston boys with 14 points, Drew Bartell scored 13, Daniel Lumbreras 11, Kason Landes 9, Gavin Larson 8 and Jerick Humphreys 8.

Braxton Hiebert led Hillsboro with 11 points, Koehn Janzen added 9 and Brayson Amstutz 7.

In the Hesston-Hillsboro girls game, Hillsboro led at halftime 21-17 and 35-29 at the end of three quarters. Hesston outscored Hillsboro 9-8 in the fourth quarter.

Jaden Williams (12). Callie Yoder (11) and Jacy Proctor (10) scored 33 of Hesston’s 38 points against Hillsboro. Amyah Werth led Hillsboro with 14 points and Ella Potucek added 11/

The Hesston Swather boys (10-1) play Remington at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Tabor Gymnasium. The 4:30 p.m. game at Tabor features Holcomb vs. Riley County.

The first-round boys game at the Hillsboro gym feature Moundridge vs. Clay Center at 4:30 p.m., followed by Salina Sacred Heart vs. Hillsboro at 7:30 p.m.

The Hesston girls (7-3) are the No. 7 seed at the Hillsboro Trojan Classic girls tournament next week and will play No. 2 seed Moundridge (9-1) at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Tabor College gymnasium.

The 3 p.m. first-round girls game at the Tabor gym features Holcomb against Riley County.

First-round girls games at the Hillsboro High School gym feature No. 1 Remington vs. No. 8 Clay Center at 3 p.m., followed by Salina Sacred Heart vs. Hillsboro at 6 p.m.

Semifinals and the consolation games will be played next Friday. The finals will be played Saturday.
