HESSTON, Kan. (HCLarks.com) – The Hesston College volleyball team collected their second sweep of the season as they defeated the Central Christian College junior varsity in straight sets on Saturday, August 31 in Yost Center. The Larks controlled the pace of the match the entire way as they improved to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Tigers found themselves in the lead early in the first set, but the Larks eventually found their rhythm and walked away with the opening set, 25-19. Tanaeasia Brackens led HC with seven kills and a .636 hitting percentage.
The Larks dominated the second set taking an early 9-3 lead. HC racked up 11 kills while posting a .350 team hitting percentage as they took the set 25-10. Joanna Gomez and Se’maiya Farroweach recorded three kills while Laura Rojas dealt a pair of services aces.
Hesston started the final set off strong as well taking a 10-2 lead. The Larks led by as many as nine down the stretch and held off a late Tiger rally to take the final set 25-18. Brackens and Rojas led the Larks with five kills apiece bringing the team total to 17 in the set. Sarahi Paez recorded two aces.
The Larks will return to conference action on Wednesday, September 4 as they host Johnson County Community College at Yost Center at 6:30 p.m.
