Hesston Boys, Wamego Girls Continue to Roll

The Hesston High School boys basketball team improved to 7-1 with a 59-31 victory over Wamego Saturday afternoon at the Hesston gymnasium.

The Hesston girls fell to Wamego 59-56.

The Swather teams were back in action after a 15-day Christmas layoff.

The Swather boys led 18-6 after the first quarter, 35-15 at halftime and 51-22 after three periods. Wamego outscored Hesston 9-8 in the fourth quarter.

In the varsity gils game, Hesston led 17-10 at the end of the first quarter. Wamego outscored the Swathers 21-10 in the second frame to take a 31-27 halftime lead.

The Swathers led 45-41 at the end of the third quarter, but were outscored by the Red Raiders in the final frame 18-11 in the fourth quarter.

The Hesston boys improved to 8-1 and Wamego fell to 2-6.

The Wamego girls improved to 8-0 and Hesston dropped to 5-3.

The Hesston girls and boys host Cheney on Tuesday and host Hoisington on Jan. 13. The Swather squads play at Mulvane on Jan. 15 and at Hillsboro on Jan. 16.

The Wamego girls and boys host Clay Center on Tuesday and play at Wellington next Friday. The Red Raider squads play at Concordia on Jan. 13 and host Marysville on Jan. 16.
