Haven High School junior Isaiah Doherty captured the varsity boys 5K race Thursday at the Larned Invitational cross country meet with a time of 17 minutes, 13.73 seconds.
The meet was hosted by St. John-Hudson High School and took place at the Stafford Country Club.
Lyons placed third in the varsity boys 5K team standings with 106 points. Haven finished seventh with 165 points, Nickerson placed 10th with 221 and Sterling placed 12th with 230 in the 5K boys competition.
Pratt-Skyline edged out Pratt 68-78 to win the varsity boys team title.
Lyons placed two varsity boys runners in the top 20. Cain Villasenor placed 12th with a time of 18:48.3 and Aaron Villasenor was 20th in 19:09.11.
Burrton’s Isaac Jones just missed the top 20 with a 21st-place effort of 19:11.74.
Nickerson’s top finishers in the varsity boys 5K were Aiden Brinkley, 26th, 19:33.65; and Andy Huggard, 39th, 20:30.65.
Pratt won the varsity girls 5K team competition with 42 points, followed by Ellsworth 51, Ellinwood 58, Pretty Prairie 94 and Ingalls 100.
Area varsity girls runners in the top 20 were Haven’s Berenika Coufalova, 5th place, 21:35.75; Pretty Prairie’s Amity White, 7th place, 22:15.95; and Sterling’s Jaelynn Saiz, 18th, 24:27.39.
Nickerson’s top finisher was Jayci Ohnmacht in 24th place, 25:01.56.
There also were seventh- and eighth-grade races and JV races for boys and girls.
