The Haven Wildcats improved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in Kansas Class 2A District 5 with a 34-6 victory over Kingman Thursday night at Kingman.
Kingman dropped to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in Class 2A District 5 play.
Haven quarterback Brogan Wray completed 17-of-33 passes for 219 yards and one touchdown.
Cole Brawner carried the ball 32 times for 225 yards and three TDs.
Kolton Altvater had 3 receptions for 97 yards. Zade Turner had 5 receptions for 51 yards. Christethen Barrientos had 6 receptions for 42 yards and one TD. Grant Patry had 1 reception for 26 yards. Cole Brawner had 2 receptions 3 yards.
Altvater made both of his field goal attempts and was 4-for-4 in extra points.
The Wildcats made two big defensive interceptions that ended drives in Havens territory. Brawner and John Williams had the picks.
Patry made 6 solo tackles, 3 assists and 1 QB sack. Tanner Loughrie had 6 solo tackles and added 6 assists. Jaxson Wilder had 4 solo tackles, 1 assisted tackle and an interception.
“Offense was very balanced with the passing and running game,” said Haven’s “stats guy” Greg Thompson. “The passing game mixed it up with short passes which opened it up to take shots down the field. .
“The offensive line did a great job creating lanes for Cole Brawner to read and react. Brogan Wray did a great job protecting the ball and making the correct reads.
“The defense had a few big stops on third and fourth downs. The defense gave up a few long runs but regrouped and was able to make key stops, especially later in the game.”
Haven will play a first-round Class 3A state playoff game next Friday (Halloween Night).
Kansas state playoff first-round games in Classes 6A through 1A Divisions I and II plus Six-Man begin next Friday. Times and locations will be announced soon.
