Haven Softball Team Sweeps Smoky Valley

The Haven High School softball team swept a doubleheader from Smoky Valley Tuesday at Haven.

Haven won the first game 13-3 (5 innings) and the second game 13-11.

In the first game, Haven senior Avery Brawner, who will play softball at Hutchinson Community College next year, pitched five innings, allowed eight hits, three earned runs, walked none and struck out nine.

Haven collected six hits and 13 walks off two Viking pitchers and capitalized on six Viking errors. The Wildcats scored two runs in each of the first three innings and seven in the fourth.

Brawner and Mayzie Warden each had two hits. EllaBontrager singled in two runs.

Kenzley Haxton and Kate Griffin each had two hits for the Vikings, who scored one run in the fourth and two in the fifth off Brawner.

Brawner also pitched the second game for the Wildcats. She allowed 11 runs on 12 hits (seven earned), walked four and struck out seven. Two Smoky Valley pitchers allowed 14 runs (nine earned) on eight hits, walked eight and struck out three.

Brawner, Morgan O’Neal and Sierra Yoder each had two hits and drove in two runs apiece. Paige O’Neal had three hits. Warden scored three runs. The Wildcats had five stolen bases and Smoky Valley three.

Alexis Gordon had three hits for the Vikings in the second game. Haxton, Grace Dudley and Cadence Rich each had two hits.

In other area baseball and softball action Tuesday night:

• The Nickerson High School baseball team split a doubleheader Tuesday at Nickerson.

The Panther baseball team lost the first game 4-3 and won the second game 12-8.

The Nickerson softball team lost to Hoisington 18-3 and the second game 19-1. Both games need after five innings. Hoisington improved to 6-0.

Nickerson’s teams host Smoky Valley on Thursday and Hoisington’s teams host Larned.

• The Halstead High School baseball and softball teams both were swept in doubleheaders at Pratt Tuesday.

Pratt won the baseball games 3-2 and 8-1 and the softball games 16-8 and 14-6.

• The Hesston High School baseball and softball teams swept Hillsboro Tuesday at Hesston.

The Swather baseball team won their games 13-3 and 18-8 (5 innings) and the softball team won 8-7 and 17-7.

• The Lyons High School baseball team swept a doubleheader from Larned Tuesday at Battershell Field at Lyons.

Lyons won the first game 11-1 and the second game 9-8. Lyons had 13 hits in the twinbill and Larned had 14.

• The Larned High School softball team swept a doubleheader from Lyons Tuesday at Ralph Terry Field in Lyons.

Larned won the first game 20-0 on 10 hits and the second game 20-4 on eight hits.

Larned’s Jadyn Crosby pitched a three-inning perfect game no-hitter in the first game and allowed three hits in the second game.
