Haven, Cheney Boys Advance to Semifinal Showdown in Adolph Rupp Tournament

In first-round games at the 58th annual Halstead Adolph Rupp Boys Basketball Tournament Tuesday night, Haven defeated Halstead 45-31 and the Cheney boys defeated Winfield 58-43.

The Haven and Halstead boys teams were tied 11-11 at halftime, Haven led 23-22 at halftime and 34-28 at the end of the third quarter. Haven went on an 11-3 run in the fourth quarter.

Brogan Wray led Haven (7-7) with 13 points. Teammate Zade Turner scored 10 points. Wyatt Bontrager scored 8 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Logan Jacques had 7 boards.

Wyatt Hobbs and Mario Diaz each scored 9 points to lead the Halstead Dragons (5-8). Damien Whillock added 7. Whillock added 5 points and 4 assists.

Cheney’s Ayden Koehn scored 23 points and Quaid Thomas added 13. Winfield’s Evan Hutto scored 18 points.

In the consolation semifinals Thursday, Lawrence will play Rose Hill at 6 p.m. and Winfield will play Halstead at 7:45 p.m.

In the semifinals Friday, Andale will play Garden Plain at 6 p.m., followed by Cheney vs. Haven at 7:45 p.m.

The finals will be played on Saturday: 7th place game at 2 p.m., followed by 5th place game at 3:45 p.m., 3rd place game at 6 p.m. and the championship game at 7:45 p.m.

Monday night, Andale defeated Lawrence 75-56 and Garden Plain defeated Rose Hill 60-54.

Andale had four players in double figures — Caden Fowler (22), Hunter Grimes (13), Cruz Kaiser (11 with three threes) and Ashtin Harp (10). Garden Plain’s Cooper Eck and Rose Hill’s Zander Ford each scored 22 points. Lawrence’s top scorer was Edward Roman Nose with 16 points. Garden Plain’s Eli Eck tallied 13 points.
