Halstead junior Bailey Bernal surpassed 1,000 career kills during the Hillsboro Trojan Classic this weekend — a tournament stacked with top-ranked teams, including 4A Rock Creek, 3A Halstead, and 2A Hillsboro.
Bernal has been in the Dragons lineup ever since freshman year when she earned First-Team All-League honors last year.
In 2024, she was named to the 3A State All Tournament Team and recognized as KVA First Team All-State.
Following in the footsteps of teammate Katharine Engel, who has also surpassed both 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs earlier this season, Bernal has played in a substate championship each year of her high school career — a run that includes Halstead’s 3A state championship last season.
