Halstead Shuts out Nickerson 49-0

The Halstead Dragons defeated the Nickerson Panthers 49-0 Friday night at Hess Field in Halstead.

Halstead took a 21-0 lead after one quarter, led 42-0 at halftime. The Dragons scored one TD in the second half.

In the opening frame, Halstead’s Edric Zorn broke free for a 30-yard touchdown run. Carlos Martinez added the extra point to give the Dragons a 7-0 lead.

Halstead quarterback Damien Whillock connected with Noah Diehl for a 57-yard touchdown strike. Martinez’s extra point was good, extending the Dragons’ lead to 14-0.

Zorn broke loose for a 51-yard touchdown run. Martinez added the extra point to push the Dragons’ lead to 21-0.

In the second quarter, Halstead’s Brock Odendahl rushed for a 1-yard TD. The fourth PAT kick by Martinez made the score 28-0.

Zorn added a 7-yard touchdown and Martinez kicked his fifth PAT. Halstead led Nickerson 35-0 with 3:22 left in the first half.

Whillock connected with Noah Diehl for a 72-yard touchdown. Martinez added his sixth extra point. Halstead led Nickerson 42-0.

In the third quarter, Noah Diehl returns the kickoff for a touchdown. The PAT by Martinez is good. The Dragons extend their lead over Nickerson to 49-0.

Halstead hosts Hillsboro next Friday and Nickerson plays at Hesston.
