The Halstead girls and boys basketball split games with Hesston Tuesday night at the Halstead High School gymnasium.
The Halstead girls (15-0), ranked No. 2 in Kansas Class 3A, came from behind to defeated Hesston 51-49 and the Hesston boys won 74-34.
The Hesston girls led Halstead 15-8 after one quarter, 31-14 at halftime and 40-31 after three quarters. Halstead outscored 20-9 in the fourth quarter.
Halstead had a balanced scoring attack, led by Wills with 14 points, 13 rebounds and 8 steals. Junior Jordy Schroeder added 13 points and 5 rebounds. Piper Schroeder and Bailey Bernal each scored 9.
On Saturday, Halstead defeated Cheney 61-39 to capture the Haven Wildcat Classic for the third straight year. Bernal led the way with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Schroeder contributed 17 points, 4 assists and 3 steals. Wills added 12 points, 6 assists, and 6 steals.
The Dragon girls have won 26 straight games, including three wins at the Class 3A state tournament to win the state title.
In the varsity boys game Tuesday. Hesston took a 22-11 lead in the first quarter, led at halftime 44-20 and outscored the Dragons 30-14 in the second half.
Ty Unruh led Hesston with 24 points. Drew Bartell scored 16 points, Kason Landes added 10 and Jerick Humphreys tallied 10.
Reece Carmichael led the Halstead boys (5-11) with 10 points and Damien Whillock added 9.
Halstead will host Hillsboro on Friday and Hesston will host Larned.
