The Halstead High School girls basketball team dominated Wichita Trinity Academy 64-37 Friday night at the Halstead gymnasium.
Wichita Trinity Academy won the varsity boys game 52-46 and improved to 9-1. The Halstead boys fell to 4-6.
Halstead’s Bailey Bernal led the Dragons with 20 points (including four 3-pointers) and grabbed 5 rebounds. Piper Schroeder scored 13 points and had 2 steals.
Addison Wills, who signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Ottawa University, contributed 11 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Onnyka Nedich scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
The host Dragon girls led at halftime 41-21 and pushed their lead to 50-29 at the end of the third quarter.
The Halstead girls, the defending Kansas Class 3A state champions and currently the No. 1 team in 3A this year, have a 10-0 record,
The Halstead boys trailed Wichita Trinity Academy 16-11 at the end of the first quarter and 24-23 at halftime.
The Dragons rallied in the third quarter to take a 36-34 lead, but Wichita Trinity Academy outscored the Dragons 18-10 in the fourth quarter.
Reece Carmichael led the Halstead boys with 19 points. Mario Diaz scored 8 points. Damien Whillock had 5 points and 6 rebounds. Carlos Martinez grabbed 5 boards.
Tyler Wertenberger led Wichita Trinity Academy with 14 points. Brody Lee had 11 points, Jesse Eklund added 10 points and Jude Adkison chipped in with 9 points.
