Great Bend Bat Cats Drop Two to Monarchs

GREAT BEND, Kan. – The Great Bend Bat Cats played two straight games against the Hutchinson Monarchs June 13-14, falling in both matchups.

The teams first played each other Fri., June 13 in Great Bend, seeing the Cats fall 2-1. Offense was hard to come by as they had four hits total and struck out eight times. Despite the loss, Carson Umphres had a terrific day on the mound, throwing 7.1 innings striking out six batters.

The rematch took place Sat., June 14 in Hutchinson as part of the Monarchs’ Ad Astra Radio Night and Strike Out Cancer Night. The team wore special uniforms, highlighted with pink outlines on the numbers, logo, sleeves, and collar of their jerseys, with the words “Strike Out Cancer” on their upper backs.

Offense showed out on both ends, but Hutchinson had the edge winning 9-5. The power bats were alive with doubles by TJ Shaw, Kyle Walker, Caleb Cowan, and Elias Leon. They were also hit by three pitches and drew three walks while striking out just four times. The Monarchs finished with nine hits on the game however, including six extra-base hits.

Great Bend will be in action for three straight days, starting Monday, June 16 at home vs. the Kansas Cannons.
