Hutchinson 13, Valley Center 0 – The Hutchinson defense dominated Valley Center, holding the Hornets to 42 yards and three first downs.

Kade Smith had a big night rushing for the Salthawks, as he finished with 228 yards and both touchdowns, each from a yard out.

The Salthawks improved to 1-1 and will travel to Maize next week.

Smoky Valley 43, Belle Plaine 0 – Smoky Valley stopped Belle Plaine on fourth down on the opening drive and never looked back en route to a victory at Ted Kessinger Family Stadium. Gavin Stambaugh, senior running back, had a huge night accounting for five touchdown runs, four of those in the first half, as the Vikings scored on each of their first-half possessions.

Senior Ezekiel Baker also notched a scoring run in the first half as the Vikings moved their record to 1-1 while Belle Plaine falls to 0-2. Smoky Valley travels to Haven next week for a tough CKL matchup. 

Moundridge 28, Sterling 7 – Henry Hecox threw two touchdown passes, including a fourth down strike to Bear Moddlemog and an 8-yard pass to Kaiser Kanitz, giving the Wildcats a 14-0 halftime lead. Sterling’s Wyatt Newberry scored on an 8-yard run after Zane Farney’s 79-yard effort, but Moundridge extended their lead with a 20-yard TD run from Kanitz and an 18-yard score from Logan Grenwalt. Hecox finished with 150 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Farney led Sterling with 205 rushing yards. Moundridge improves to 2-0, and Sterling falls to 0-2.

Minneapolis 26 Lyons 7 – Minneapolis reeled off 26 consecutive points after trailing 7-0 early in the first quarter. Brayson Peters had 123 yards on 28 carries and one touchdown to lead the Minneapolis rushing attack. Joseph Woehl added four receptions for 114 yards, including a 71-yard TD strike to lead their passing game.

Minneapolis had 302 total yards to 236 for Lyons. Tegan Link had his first career touchdown on a 40-yard middle screen pass to get the only score for Lyons.  Xavier Solis had his career-best with 94 yards on three receptions. Minneapolis evened its record at 1-1 while Lyons drops to 0-2. 

Goessel 56, Centre 8 – Trey Gaddis rushed for 145 yards and four touchdowns on just four carries, and he added an interception, as Goessel shook off last week’s mercy-rule defeat to win by mercy rule. The game ended at halftime due to the 45-point mercy rule.

Goessel finished with 289 yards on just 20 plays, an average of 14.5 yards a play. Brayton Base added 38 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and he also completed his only pass for 44 yards, a touchdown to Braxton Davis.

Centre senior quarterback Robert Spohn suffered a second-quarter injury that saw him stretchered off the field and taken away in an ambulance.

Macksville 20, Kinsley 16 – Macksville overcame a 10-point deficit going into the fourth quarter, picking up a 20-16 win over Kinsley in Macksville.  Senior quarterback Kendall Grippin scored from 5 yards out with two seconds left in the game to seal the win for the Mustangs. Orion Guevara of Macksville had two highlight-reel touchdowns on a 27-yard reception from Grippin and a three-yard run in the fourth quarter. Sandwiched in the middle was a two-yard touchdown run by Kinsley freshman QB Josh Stuckey. Guevara finished with 99 all-purpose yards.  Macksville racked up 241 yards with 145 on the ground.  Kinsley outgained them, though, as the Coyotes had 258 total yards with 222 rushing, led by Woodrow Lancaster with 118 yards on 19 carries and a score.
