Four Bullpup Girls Wrestlers Punch Ticket to State

AUGUSTA, Kan. – Four McPherson High School Girls Wrestlers placed in the top 8 in their weight class in the Regionals meet in Augusta, qualifying them for the 4A State Girls Wrestling Championships.

Amara Dossett will wrestle at state in the 125 class. She entered Regionals as the No. 11 seed in her bracket, going 5-2 overall over the weekend. She closed off winning the 5th Place Match with a 6-3 decision.

Heidi Fairchild finished 5th in the 170 class, finishing with a 3-2 record in the bracket. She earned a first-round bye as the No. 4 seed before falling in her first match. She then pushed on to head to the 5th place match, where she won via forfeit.

Despite entering as the No. 12 seed out of 15 wrestlers in the 110 class, Lily Vance was able to clinch her spot to State with a 7th place finish. After losing the opening round matchup, she moved on to win her next two matches via fall, including one where she was trailing 4-0 at the time. After falling to the eventual fourth-place finisher, she went on to win the 7th Place Match via fall.

Kara McQueen placed 8th in the 115 class. After winning the opening round via fall, she fell in a 4-2 decision to move to consolation. She moved on to advance to the 7th Place Match, where she lost via fall. However just by advancing to the 7th Place Match, she had already qualified for State.

The 4A Girls State meet will be at the Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina on Feb. 27-28. The Boys Wrestling team will have their Regional meet in Beloit on Saturday, Feb. 21.
