McPHERSON, Kan. – Former McPherson High School Softball Coach Daryl Hoelting has received the Kansas Coaches Association (KCA) Softball Coach of the Year award after leading the Bullpups to their first state title.
Hoelting’s lone season at MHS saw the Bullpups win the first state title in school history, doing so with a perfect 31-0 record. McPherson Softball is the first and only team in Kansas so far to win 31 games in a season, albeit it was the second year under the new KSHSAA rule of a maximum of 26 regular season games.
The title for Hoelting is the sixth in his coaching career with his third different school. Hoelting also won two 5A titles with Salina South, as well as a 3A and 2-1A title with Salina-Sacred Heart. The coach’s track record also include four runners-up finishes, 17 regional titles, 18 league titles, and a winning percentage of over 90% in his career.
The KCA gives awards to the best coach in their respective sports. The Coach of the Year award represents all classes in their sport. Hoelting will be honored at the KSHSAA Coaching School at Salina Fieldhouse on Aug. 4-5.
