Football Bulldogs Picked Fourth by Coaches, Fifth by Media

WICHITA, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — Football is just around the corner! The McPherson College Bulldogs football squad was picked to finish tied for fourth in the KCAC’s Kessinger Division by the coaches, and fifth in the division by the media, the league announced following media day Friday (Aug. 2).

The Bulldogs, who won four of their first five games in 2023 before they were plagued with injuries, finished with 11 total points in the coaches poll, and 42 points by the media.

“We had a good spring and a good off-season, and we’ve had a lot of them here that are working very very hard to try to push our program to the next level,” head coach Jeremiah Fiscus said at KCAC Virtual Media Day. “We return a lot of guys who have a lot of experience.”

MC returns eight starters on the offensive side of the ball, including starting quarterback Tristan Szabo. The Bulldogs also have five starters from the defense return led by 2023 NAIA All-American Nehemiah Figueroa.

Evangel and Friends tied for the top spot in the Kessinger division each finishing with 23 points and three first place votes by the conference coaches.

On the other side of the standings, Kansas Wesleyan and Ottawa came away with a tie for the first place spot, each finishing with 23 points and three first place votes.

In the media polls, Evangel finished with 87 points and eight first place votes, while Friends had 86 points and matched with eight first place tallies.

Kansas Wesleyan grabbed the top spot in the Bissell Division with 93 points and 13 first place votes, while Ottawa was picked to finish second with 81 points and three first place tallies.

The Bulldogs will open the season on Aug. 31, traveling to Hillsboro, Kan. to take on Tabor College. Their home opener is slated for Sep. 7, playing host to Sterling.
