The Kansas City Chiefs took the field for the eleventh practice of training camp on Friday morning as the defending Super Bowl champions continued their preparation for the upcoming season.

Here’s a quick rundown of what took place during Friday’s practice, and for reference, all previous practice reports can be accessed below.

1. The Chiefs didn’t let a little rain get in the way of an outdoor practice on Friday.

A thunderstorm forced the Chiefs to begin Friday’s practice indoors, but fortunately for the fans in attendance, the team was able to move back outside for the majority of the session. A light rain persisted through much of practice, but Head Coach Andy Reid viewed the weather as a positive.

“As long as there isn’t lightning, it’s all good. We’ll come out and work,” Reid said. “Somewhere, that’ll pay off for you down the road. [It’s things like] footing, grasping the football and catching the football – all of those things. [It’s beneficial] on both sides of the ball, and on special teams.”

Friday’s practice – which clocked in at two hours and 25 minutes – marked a third-straight padded session and the sixth in the last eight days.

2. Wide receiver Skyy Moore made a great catch in the end zone during 11-on-11 drills.

Moore – who was been a standout throughout training camp – continued to impress on Friday with a touchdown grab in the back of the end zone during an 11-on-11 red zone period. Moore held on for the score despite good coverage by the defender.

Some other players who scored touchdowns during the period were wide receiver Richie James, wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, tailback Deneric Prince and tailback Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

It wasn’t only the offense finding success, however, as safety Justin Reid jumped a route during the period and tallied an interception in the end zone.

Coach Reid spoke specifically about the red zone period of Friday’s practice following the session.

“It was good work today. It was a ‘red zone’ day, so there was a little bit shorter of a field, but the guys kept the intensity level up,” Reid said. “I thought they did a nice job of competing. The defense is creating some small windows down in there, so it’s tough shooting, and we appreciate that. It’s good work for the offense and for the team [overall].”

3. Rookie cornerback Nic Jones tallied an impressive pass-breakup during a 7-on-7 period.

Jones recorded a noteworthy pass-breakup during a 7-on-7 red zone period of Friday’s practice when he stuck with his assigned receiver and successfully defended a pass toward the back of the end zone. The receiver had an opportunity to go up and get the ball, but Jones made sure to knock it away.

Jones, who the Chiefs selected in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has flashed his ability throughout training camp.

4. We livestreamed a portion of Friday’s practice.

Our third livestream of camp took place on Friday morning, providing fans with an opportunity to watch portions of training camp from anywhere in the world.

Full, 11-on-11 footage is off-limits because it could reveal play designs to opponents, but this exclusive look included some 1-on-1 drills and two player interviews.

Our next stream will go live on Tuesday morning.

5. Here’s a look at Friday’s injury report.

The players who did not participate in Friday’s practice due to injury were defensive end Mike Danna (calf), cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (knee), tight end Jody Fortson (shoulder), defensive back Reese Taylor (hamstring), defensive lineman Charles Omenihu (calf) and wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee). Linebacker Drue Tranquill, who missed Thursday’s practice for unspecified reasons, returned on Friday.

Additionally, cornerback Jaylen Watson did not participate on Friday due to personal reasons.

The Chiefs will take the field for the twelfth practice of training camp on Saturday morning. For a look at the training camp schedule or for more information on how to reserve tickets, click here.
