WICHITA, Kan. (milb.com/royals) – The Wichita Wind Surge got a two-run home run out of Yoyner Fajardo in the bottom of the second inning that proved to be the difference in the ball game against Tulsa. The Wichita Wind Surge defeated the Tulsa Drillers at Riverfront stadium with a score of 3-1.
The Wind Surge scored in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead. After David Festa struck out three batters in the top of the first, Yunior Severino hit an RBI single on a ground ball to center field for the Wind Surge.
Wichita Extended their lead in the bottom of the second inning. Fajardo hit a ball into the Boot Barn Home Run Deck just over the right field wall for a two-run shot that flew 384 feet.
The Drillers got rid of their goose egg in the top of the seventh. Austin Gauthier hit a sacrifice fly that was caught at the start of the warning track in right field which gave enough time for Tulsa to score an unearned run.
David Festa made his 17th start of the season for the Wichita Wind Surge. He pitched a scoreless three and third innings where he gave up three hits, struck out six batters, and walked two more. Isaac Mattson earned the win.
The starting pitcher for Tulsa was Ben Casparius. He pitched a full four innings where he gave up three runs off four hits. He struck out four batters and walked three more. He was credited with the loss.
The Wichita Wind Surge improved to (12-16, 40-56) and the Tulsa Drillers fell to (9-18, 50-47).
NOTES: Brooks Lee hit his league leading 31st double in the bottom of the seventh inning. Tulsa has already secured the Propeller Series victory with 13 wins out of the 19 games played so far. The 104-degree first pitch is the hottest starting temperature ever recorded at Riverfront Stadium. Yunior Severino extended his hitting streak to eight games. His ten game streak of scoring a run ended on Tuesday. Severino was named Texas League Hitter of the Week, drilling six home runs and batting .348 for the week with ten RBI.
